Classic Bikes FAQ

Great news! We’ve updated our classic bikes to include smart, lock-to technology that eliminates the need to park the bike at a kiosk. We’ll be phasing out kiosks but in the meantime, here’s what you need to know:

  1. Download the RideKC Bike app to locate a bike near you
  2. Scan the QR code on the bike to unlock it
  3. Ride!
  4. Secure the bike at any secure bike parking location (e.g. rack, pole, kiosk, etc.)

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

What if I can’t take a photo to end my trip?
If you’re not able to take a picture of your bike, don’t panic! Just make sure it’s locked safely in a hub or at a rack and then shoot us a message through the Chat support in the app.

How do I find a vehicle?
On the main map screen, look for the orange e-bike or scooter icons in your vicinity.

How do I unlock and use a vehicle?
From the main map screen, tap the “Scan” button at the bottom of the screen, and scan the QR code to start riding. If the bike’s lock does not unlock or the scooter doesn’t turn on, shoot us an email at info@ridekcbike.com.

How do I find the QR code?
The QR code can be found on the triangle graphic on the shroud of the bike (you’ll be looking at it when sitting on the bike and facing the handlebars).

What is a coverage area?
A coverage area is the blue zone designated in the app where you can ride and park a vehicle. Parking vehicles outside this area can subject you to a fine.

What are Hubs?
Hubs are common parking areas where you can end your trip. You are more likely to find a bike at Hubs.

Where can I park?
You can park your bike by tethering it to any Hub, pole, or bike rack within the coverage area. If you want to “add a stop” while you’re on a trip, make sure you lock your vehicle to a bike rack while you’re not riding. Please do not lock the vehicle to any transit posts.

How do I start a trip?
You can start your trip by tapping on “Scan” and scanning the QR code on the bike or entering the bike number.

How do I add a stop while on a trip?
When you are on a trip you can lock the bike and remain on a trip. To use the bike again, tap “Unlock” on the “on trip” screen and the bike will unlock.

How much does it cost to add a stop on a trip?
Normal trip rates apply when a stop has been added to a trip.

Can I rent multiple vehicles from RideKC Bike?
You can rent up to four vehicles (Classic Bikes and/0r E-Bikes) on one account, just scan them from the main map screen like you would usually.

How do I end a trip?
Safely lock your vehicle at a hub or at a bike rack within the blue coverage area.

What do I do if the trip is still running on the app?
Safely lock and secure your bike at a Hub, and contact Customer Support through the app (tap “Chat” at the bottom of this screen). We’ll get back to as soon as we can and help you resolve and end your trip.

What do I do if my bike breaks or I get a flat tire?
Lock your bike at the nearest Hub or bike rack and message us through chat support to let us know.

How do I park at a bike rack?
Tether the vehicle to the rack with the orange cable, push the lock lever down, and submit a photo through the app to end the trip.

What is a Wallet?
Your Wallet (in the app) contains the funds you have with RideKC Bike. Trip fees will be deducted from your Wallet balance.

Why is my card getting declined when I start a trip?
Your credit card will be charged an authorized hold of $10 when you start a trip. If you are unable to start a trip and your card is declined, please contact your card issuer about “whitelisting” us. This hold will be removed at the end of the trip.

When is the hold on my credit card released?
Your credit card will be charged an authorized hold of $10 when you start a trip. This will be removed at the end of the trip.
